A Study on Direction of Educational Contents in Pre-treatment Process of Dental Prosthesis for Training Dental Hygienists

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to present some ideas for the direction of educational contents in pre-treatment processes of dental prosthesis for training dental hygienists.
The concrete research tasks are to make clear the direction of the assistant role in surgical operation that dental hygienists will have to perform 1) in the actual dental clinic(, that is diagnostic activity and establishment of plans on medical treatment, 2) in the process of making individual tray and temporary crown, and 3) in the process of mouth preparation.
This study is done, laying stress on the pre-treatment process according to each step which is performed in the actual dental clinic. And the materials which were used in examining the assistant activities in surgical operation are the books and the research papers, and my own various actual experiences in dental clinic.
As the result of the study, I got to conclude that we have to teach the students not only through the theory but also the practical exercise, including the followings in the educational contents ;
(1) the educational contents being related to the oral examination should be mainly organized with the examination into the condition of teeth, gingiva, periodontium, occlusion, and so on.
(2) the educational contents being related to the inquiry of the clinical history should be mainly organized with the inquiries into the chief complaint, present illness, dental history, and so on.
(3) the educational contents being related to the radiographic study should be mainly organized with taking radiograph of root apex, alveolar bone, degree of teeth development, size and form of root, and so on.
(4) the educational contents being related to the impression and production of diagnostic cast should be mainly organized with the way of using impression materials and cast materials.
(5) the educational contents being related to mounting the articulator of diagnostic cast should be mainly organized with explaining its kinds and the reason of mounting the articulator, and so on.
(6) the educational contents being related to preceding examination and analysis of the diagnostic cast should be mainly organized with the oral examination, the inquiry of the clinical history, the impression and production of diagnostic cast, mounting the articulator of diagnostic cast, and so on.
(7) the educational contents being related to the treatment plan and the prognosis should be mainly organized with the present condition and the range of treatment plan, and so on.
(8) the educational contents being related to the making individual tray and temporary crown should be mainly organized with their kinds and necessity.
(9) the educational contents being related to the surgical treatment on the mouth preparation process should be mainly organized with excessive dental caries, root rest, moving teeth, extraction of supernumerary teeth, and impacted tooth, and so on.
(10) the educational contents being related to preservation, canal, and treatment in the process of mouth preparation should be mainly organized with the criteria of choosing teeth with problem.
(11) the educational contents being related to the periodontal treatment on the mouth preparation process should be mainly organized with mouth hygiene, arrangement of oral condition, calculus removal, oral prophylaxis, and so on.
(12) the educational contents being related to the orthodontic therapy on the mouth
preparation process should be mainly organized with reforming a row of teeth.
(13) the educational contents being related to the bite control on the mouth preparation
process should be mainly organized with normal occlusion, abnormal occlusion, and so on. But we also need to have the more attentions about following matters in each number
(1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), and (13).
1) the examination about the condition of temporomandibular joint and hard and soft
palate, the size and the position of tongue, the quantity and quality of saliva, the form of
residual ridge, and sticking of frenulum.
2) the inquiry of medical history, physical and mental health, being experience of adaptation insert of denture, and being non-function habit.
3) the way of taking radiograph of, the amount of bone resorption in the environs of remaining teeth and edentulous jaw, the thickness of mucous tissue covering bone, the position of mental foramen, the bone substance, and the sharp bone flap in alveolus.
4) the method of taking various impressions on oral anatomy, and the skill of making a mold which is suited to mounting articulator.
5) the technique of mounting by using the face bow.
6) the ability of fundamental research for preceding examination and analysis of molds. 7) the period and the expense of treatment, the degree of care by the family, and desirable prognosis.
8) the ability and the materials of making individual tray and temporary crown.
9) the skills of tori and exostoses, removal of soft tissue, frenectomy, vesitibuloplasty, and etc.
10) the technique of treatment, and the way of using materials being needed in treatment.
11) the methods of gigivactomy, flap surgery, and plastic surgery.
12) the reciprocal anchorage for prosthetic dentistry, and the periodontal condition in orthodontic therapy.
13) the prognosis of prosthesis after occlusion.
